• In the history of the world the year
1609 seems to be a year of great
consequence.
• Among all the important events the
collection of 154 sonnets by William
Shakespeare was published, which
covers themes such as the passage of
time, love, beauty and mortality.
• The first 126 sonnets are addressed to a
young man; the last 28 to a woman.
• Sonnet 18 is the best known and most
well-loved of all 154 sonnets. It is also
one of the most straightforward in
language and intent.
• The sonnet is written in Old English, so
some words have the next meaning:
Thou – you – вы

SHALL I compare thee to a summer's
day?
not overcome by passion
Thou art more lovely and more
temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling
the sun
buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short
the beauty (fair) of
a date:
everything beautiful (fair)
will
fade (declines)
the natural
changes age
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven brings
shines,
And often is his gold complexion that beauty you possess
dimm'd;
And every fair from fair sometime
declines,
By chance or nature's changing course
untrimm'd;
