4. Imagine that you are doing a project “Life without gadgets” together with your

photo:
Hi, Kate! I have found / I’ve just found two illustrations for our project (on…) and I’d like to
discuss them with you.
1. give a brief description of the photos, justifying the choice of the photos for the project;
I think these photos are a good choice for our project. In the 1st photo there is a girl in a
library. She is holding a book in her hands. She must be doing some research and has just found
something important. The second photo shows a girl at her home. She is sitting comfortably on
a sofa and reading an electronic book.

6.

2. say in what way the pictures are different, justifying the choice of the photos for the
project;
(There are some (obvious) differences between the photos.) The main/most striking (самый
яркий) difference between the pictures lies in the way (method) of reading. The 1st photo shows
a traditional process of getting information from a print format. By contrast, the 2nd picture
illustrates a modern approach (подход/метод/способ) to reading, that is using an electronic
device to read. (Another difference is that the way of reading shown in the 2nd photo is much
more comfortable and convenient than the one that we can see in the 1st picture. (Apparently
[əˈpærəntlɪ] вероятно/по-видимому, using an e-reader or a tablet to search for information
takes much less effort than going to the library and looking for a suitable book.)
***I think these pictures are a perfect illustration of the fact that life without gadgets has its
pluses and minuses and that we can read either with or without electronic devices.

7.

3. mention the advantages and disadvantages (1-2) of the two types of books;
Indeed, although these two types of books are very different, they both have their advantages
and disadvantages. Print books give a more fulfilling reading experience but they are quite
expensive. As for digital books, they are easier to keep and transport, however, they cause eye
strain. The choice of the format depends on which of them best serves a particular situation /
purpose.

8.

4. express your opinion on the subject of the project – whether you would like to live without
gadgets and why.
Many people today view the increasing popularity of gadgets as an alarming trend but I
disagree because modern gadgets make our life more comfortable and save up a lot of free
time. That is why I wouldn’t like to live without gadgets. / Personally, I wouldn’t like to live
without … .
That’s (basically) all that I wanted to discuss with you. / (Well,) Let me know what you think
about the pictures. Bye for now!

Hi, Kate! I’ve just found two illustrations for our project on “leisure activities” and I’d like
to discuss them with you.
1 Give a brief description of the photos, justifying the choice of the photos for the project
1. I think these photos are a good choice for our project as they show two completely
different types of people’s pastime. In the 1st photo there is a group of people
skydiving. In the second photo we can see a boy playing a computer game.
2 Say in what way the pictures are different, justifying the choice of the photos for the
project;
2. There are some (obvious) differences between the photos. The 1st photo shows skydivers
who are engaged in active recreation outdoor. By contrast, the 2nd picture illustrates the
boy, he is absorbed in playing computer games indoors and remains physically inactive .
I think these pictures are a perfect illustration of the fact that leisure activities can be
different.
***2 различия: 1. в помещении – на воздухе, 2. активный отдых – пассивный

14.

3 Mention the advantages and disadvantages (1-2) of the two types of books;
3. Indeed, although these two types of leisure activities are very different, they both have
their advantages and disadvantages (pros and cons). Both activities can be rather hazardous
which is their significant
drawback. While parachute jumps can threaten physical health,
.
playing computer games turn out to be dangerous for mental health. As for the benefits, the
former activity is adventurous way to spend time and the latter develops coordination,
imagination, quick reaction. The choice of leisure activities depends on your interests.
• hazardous [ˈhæzədəs] опасный, (dangerous/harmful), рискованный (risky)

4. Express your opinion on the subject of the project – what kind of leisure activities do
you prefer and why;
4. Personally, I would like to go in for skydiving no matter how risky it is as it is a
breathtaking and. challenging activity that not everyone will dare do.
That’s all. Let me know what you think about the pictures. Bye for now!

a project “Wild animals in Captivity”

with your friend. You have found some illustrations and want to share the news.
Leave a voice message to your friend. In 2.5 minutes be ready to tell the friend
about the photo:
• give a brief description of the photos, justifying the choice of the photos for the project;
• say in what way the pictures are different, justifying the choice of the photos for the
project;
• mention the advantages and disadvantages (1-2) of the two types of habitats;
• express your opinion on the subject of the project – whether you would like wild animals
to live in captivity and why or why not.

22.

Hi, Kate! I’ve just found two illustrations for our project on “Wild animals in Captivity” and I’d
like to discuss them with you.
1 Give a brief description of the photos, justifying the choice of the photos for the project
I think these photos are a good choice for our project as they show two completely different
places where wild animals can live. In the 1st photo there is a caged tiger. In the second photo we
can see some tigers in the wild.

23.

2 Say in what way the pictures are different, justifying the choice of the photos
for the project;
2. There are some obvious differences between the photos. The 1st photo shows a
lone tiger in the zoo, where no freedom of movement. By contrast, the 2nd picture
depicts an adult tiger with two tiger cubs near the river in the wild nature. These
animals have wide open space to move around.
I think these pictures are a perfect illustration of different wild animals'
habitats.

24.

3 Mention the advantages and disadvantages (1-2) of the two types of habitats;
3. Indeed, although these two types of habitats are very different, they both have
their advantages and disadvantages (pros and cons). Both habitats can be rather
hazardous which is their significant drawback. In the wild animals are killed by
people (poacher [ˈpəʊʧə] браконьер) for their beautiful skin. As for zoos, they
can’t recreate animals’ habitat. This makes them unhappy and restless
(беспокойный). Also, some animals do not breed in the zoo as they feel
stressed. But living in the zoos, animals are always fed and have medical care, in
the natural environment animals have a lot of space to live happily and hunt.

25.

• express your opinion on the subject of the project – whether you would like
wild animals to live in captivity and why or why not.
4. All in all, both pictures make me think of wildlife. As for me, I am sure that
wild animals should live free in their natural habitat because they are part of
nature.
That’s all. Let me know what you think about the pictures. Bye for now!

26.

Task 4. Imagine that you are doing a project “Zoos” together with your friend. You have found some
illustrations and want to share the news. Leave a voice message to your friend. In 2.5 minutes be
ready to tell the friend about the photos:
•give a brief description of the photos, justifying the choice of the photos for the project;
•say in what way the pictures are different, justifying the choice of the photos for the project;
•mention the advantages and disadvantages (1-2) of zoos;
•express your opinion on the subject of the project – should zoos exist in the future and why.
You will speak for not more than 3 minutes (2-3 sentences for each item of the plan, 12–15
sentences total). You have to talk continuously.
