The Latvian Olympic Committee was founded on April 23,
1922 at a meeting of Latvian sports organizations in Riga, Kr.

Latvia's debut at the Olympic Games took place in 1924 in
Chamonix (France). Latvia was among the 16 countries that
opened the 1st Winter OS. Only two athletes went there from
Latvia - speed skater Alberts Rumba and cross-country skier
Roberts Plūme.
In the 1924, 1928, 1936 Winter Olympic Games, winning 2
silver (Jānis Daliņš, walking, 1932; Edvīns Bietags, GrecoRoman wrestling, 1936) and 1 bronze (Adalberts Bubenko,
walking, 1936) medals.

Sports marketing in Latvia 2010", which was carried out by the market and
public opinion research center SKDS on the order of the marketing agency
"ASAP Promo" with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science and
the Latvian Olympic Committee. Football has been recognized as the most
popular sport in the country for the second year in a row.

The Latvian Sports Award of the Year is an annual event in which the best
Latvian sportsmen and sportswomen of the past year are awarded. The
ceremony is organized by the Igo Japiņš Sports Agency and the Latvian
Olympic Committee, and it has been held since 2005. Awards are given in
different categories for both men and women. There are also special
awards given for both Lifetime Achievement in Sports and Most Popular
Athletes of the Year, as determined by the fans.
