A world record is usually the best and most important thing recorded in history
These can be amazing things
that people, animals, and
nature can do.

The Guinness World Records book
The Guinness World Records book is a collection
of every year records. You can find information
about animals, things and nature too.

Who started it?
In 1951 Hugh Beaver had an argument with
a friend about the fastest bird in Europe. But
there were no records. So he started the first
Guinness world records book in 1955.

It can be anything!
Hundreds of records are
broken every year. Some
records are very strange,
but others are really
interesting. For example,
this man has the most
Olympic gold medals!

People only?
Not all records are about people. There
are many animal records too. For
example, the world's smallest dog is a
Chihuahua called Miracle Milly. She is only
9.65 centimeters tall!

The heaviest avocado
A boy from Hawaii found an avocado that is
2.55 kilograms. That's heavier than two
bags of sugar!

Some silly records
The largest collection of rubber
ducks.
Charlotte Lee from the UK has 8,025
rubber ducks. She started collecting
them in 1996.

If your idea is good, you can
break the record.

Rules, rules, rules!
There are some things that you can't do. For
example, you can't break any laws, and you can't
hurt yourself or other people. You can’t copy other
records.
