broad Volga River system is the
greatest historic, economic and
cultural importance to the
country. Volga is Europe’s biggest
river. The main Siberian rivers –
the Ob, the Yenisei and the Lena.

lakes. The
world’s
deepest
lake
(1600m) is
Lake
Baikal.

Over the territory of the countrythere are various types of climate:
from arctic in the north to
subtropical in the south. Winters are
cold and windy with a lot of snow.
Summers are rather hot and dry. In
Siberia the temperature in winter to
50 degrees below zero. (The coldest
registered temperature was 70
degrees)

The flag of Russia is a threecolored banner. The anthem ofRussia is written by A.
Alexandrov and S. Mikhalkov. A
new national emblem is the twoheaded eagle.
