Listening
Match the four sections of the Listening test and the type of text that the
candidate will hear.
Section 1
a. a monologue on a topic relating to
general social needs
Section 2
b. a lecture or talk on a topic of general
academic interest
Section 3
c. a conversation in an academic context
between two or more people
Section 4
d. a conversation in an everyday social
context between two people

Reading
Section 1
The passage usually contains arguments and opinions and
is often research-based.
It is generally more challenging than the other two
sections.
Section 2
The text is usually divided into paragraphs or sections –
A,B,C, etc.
It may be descriptive, discursive or a combination of two.
There are usually three “matching tasks” –matching
headings or information.
Section 3
The passage Is usually descriptive or factual.
A candidate needs to find specific information.
It is the easiest part.

Speaking
Part 1
After a minute’s preparation, the candidate speaks for two
minutes on a familiar topic provided by the examiner.
3-4 min
Part 2
The examiner and the candidate discuss some general
questions based on the theme of the previous topic.
4-5 min
Part 3
The examiner asks a number of questions about familiar
topic such as studies, hobbies, etc.

Writing
Task 1
A 150-word summary of information presented in graphic
or diagrammatic form.
Candidates are advised to spend 20 min on Task 1.
Task 2
a 250-word essay presenting an argument on a given
topic. Candidates are advised to spend 40 min on Task 2.
