NEW ZEALAND
New Zealand is an island country
in the Southwest Pacific Ocean. It
lies about 1600 km southeast of
Australia and about 10 500 km
southwest of California. New
Zealand belongs to a large island
group called Polynesia. The
country is situated on two main
islands — the North Island and the
South Island — and several dozen
smaller islands. Most of the smaller
islands are hundreds of kilometers
from the main ones.

THE CAPITAL OF NEW ZEALAND
Wellington is the capital of New Zealand and Auckland is the largest city. English
is the official language of New Zealand and is spoken throughout the country.
Many native people speak their own language» Maori, in addition to English.

CLIMATE
The climate is mild at all seasons. There is no much difference of temperature
between winter and summer. Notwithstanding New Zealand is close to Australia,
New Zealand does not have such terrible heat of Australian summers, because the
ocean tempers its climate

South Island is larger than North Island. There are the highest mountains in this
part of the country. There you can find the snow-capped Southern Alps, rising 3
764 meters to the tip of Mount Cook (named after Captain Cook» who visited the
islands before sailing westwards and discovering the eastern coast of Australia).

In the mountainous north-western part of the South Island is the largest national
park of New Zealand islands - "Fiordland".
Here you can stop and relax in small cozy hoteliers and taste traditional New
Zealand dishes. The town has everything you need to receive tourists and
comfortable rest, for a visit to the amazing places of the "Fiordland" you can rent a
car.

Another attraction, which is famous for New
Zealand is the Hobbiton. Peter Jackson, the
director and producer of the trilogy "The
Brotherhood of the Ring", for a long time
looking for a place for the actual filming of
the film. Flew by helicopter on the northern
island of New Zealand, he saw the farm
Alexander.
After a long tour of the green plains, Peter
Jackson decided to settle the hero Shire (also
known as Hobbiton) on the grounds of
Alexander Farm near the town of Matamata.
When the pictures were completed, the
facades of the hobbit houses, the mill, the inn
and the humpback bridge were not
dismantled at the request of the farm owners.
Today, the Hobbiton is an attraction that is
very popular with tourists from all over the
world.

The Sky Tower in Auckland has always attracted city visitors, as it’s the highest
free-standing structure of the country and in the whole Southern Hemisphere.
People can see up to 80 km away being at its top. There is also a nice revolving
restaurant in the Orbit of the Tower.

Abel Tasman National Park is a hiker’s dream. It’s a vast park on the northern tip of
the South Island, which is closed to any vehicle. That’s why the area is supremely
clean. While traversing the park, one can see a lot of rare birds, including blue
penguins, wood pigeons, oyster catchers.

Coromandel Peninsula is one of the most visited corners of New Zealand. It is
a north-eastern peninsula which is known for its golden beaches and
unforgettable scenery. Surrounding forests are also worth exploring.

Bay of Islands with its numerous islets, secluded bays and picturesque sandy
