Language content
Each Unit contains grammatical aims that are supported by calling in
speech, comprehension, language structure and composition exercises. Each
unit has a title and just under the title one can easily find are aims of each
particular unit. Grammar spots are in blue boxes and contain only as much
grammar as needed for the exercises that are next to the box. The grammar
spots are short and illustrated with examples. I consider that grammar is
easier to soak in through vivid, everyday examples than by learning the dire
rules only.

Headway is a multi-level course for adults and young adults who want to use
English both accurately and fluently. Grammar and vocabulary are taught and
explained thoroughly, and all four language skills are systematically developed.
The Headway series combines traditional methods of language teaching and more
recent communicative approaches. Together, Headway Intermediate and
Headway Upper-Intermediate bring the student up to the level of Cambridge
First Certificate. Headway Advanced can be used in preparation for the
Cambridge Proficiency examination.
John and Liz Soars have many years of experience as teachers and teacher
trainers. Both have worked at International House, London, and Liz was one of
the chief examiners of the Cambridge/RSA Dip TEFL.

Glossary
• Pronunciation is the way a word or a language is spoken, or
the manner in which someone utters a word. If one is said to
have "correct pronunciation", then it refers to both within a
particular dialect.
• intonation - the rise and fall of our voice as we speak
• sentence stress - emphasis on certain words in a sentence
• mistake - Something that doesn't work out in search for
a solution. Often used interchangeably with error.
• error - Belief or mental state that does not conform
to objective reality; where what is correct is actually incorrect
and what is incorrect is actually correct. Often used
interchangeably with mistake.
