Since childhood, Nikolai fell in love with ice
skates: he rode on homemade devices made of
wood and equipped with iron runners. He got
real skates later. Being a student at St.
Petersburg University, Nikolai Panin- Kolomenkin
first skated on the frozen ponds of the city, and
then moved to the skating rink of the Yusupov
Garden, where the best figure skaters trained. In
1901, Panin-Kolomenkin decided to participate
in the All-Russian Championship, successfully
completed all the tasks and received the title of
the best figure skater in Russia.

The next important competition in the biography of
Nikolai Alexandrovich was the World Championship in
1903, where the young athlete took the second place. At
the 1908 Olympics, he won the first Olympic gold for our
country. Despite the fact that detractors called the
athlete's program impossible, he performed flawlessly.
In the Olympic Games of 1912, the athlete participated
not only in figure skating, but also in pistol shooting.

After the end of his sports career, PaninKolomenkin became famous as an excellent
coach and teacher who brought up many
famous athletes. He put coaching work above
all his own achievements. Nikolai Alexandrovich
Panin-Kolomenkin became one of the founders
of the Leningrad Figure Skating School, was the
first in the world to introduce sports categories,
and the skate model he developed continues to
live to this day.
