2.

• Montana is a mountainous state,
with beautiful and at the same
time harsh, wild nature. It is one of
the least populated areas of the
United States, which makes it very
attractive for ecotourism. The
main feature of the region in its
relief is the contrast between
mountainous and flat places.

3.

• The western part of the state is mountainous,
geographically it is the northern part of the
Rocky Mountains. The eastern part (about
60%) is the northern part of the Great Plains
and is covered with prairies. However, even
to the east of the Rocky Mountains there are
small separate ridges cutting through the flat
landscape. The American continental divide
that separates the basins of the Pacific and
Atlantic Oceans passes through the territory
of Montana. The highest point is Granite Peak
(3901 m). On the territory of Montana is the
source of the Missouri, which is formed at the
confluence of the Jefferson, Madison and
Gallatin rivers

4.

• Montana is one of the northwestern states of the USA famous for its extraordinarily
beautiful wildlife, clean lakes, inaccessible snowy mountain peaks. The whole state is
dotted with small towns. The population of the largest of them – Billings reaches one
hundred thousand people. On average, up to five thousand people live in the smallest
cities.

5.

Climate
The climate varies considerably in different areas. In the mountains it is cooler and
wetter. In winter, low clouds and fog often form here, precipitation in the form of snow is
not uncommon, which can go at any time of the year. But this phenomenon is less
typical for the second half of summer. On the flat part , the climate is semi -arid: with hot
summers and cold winters. Average annual temperature: +29 ⁰C in summer, and -2 ⁰C in
winter. The average annual precipitation is 330 mm . There is much more precipitation in
the west than in the east.

6.

ECONOMY
Montana is a relative center of brewing, ranking
third in the country in the number of craft breweries
per capita in 2011. Significant industries exist for
lumber and mineral extraction; the state's resources
include gold, coal, silver, talc and vermiculite. Taxes
on the extraction of resources are numerous.
Tourism is also important to the economy: more
than 10 million visitors a year visit Glacier National
Park, Flathead Lake, the headwaters of the Missouri
River, the site of the Battle of the Little Bighorn and
three of the five entrances to Yellowstone National
Park.

7.

• Montana is not accidentally called the
"Treasure State", the bowels of the state
are extremely rich in minerals. Coal, oil,
and natural gas are mined on the plains
of eastern Montana; gold, silver, copper,
lead, tungsten, and molybdenum are
mined in the mountains of the western
part of the state. Montana is the largest
U.S. supplier of talc and the only one of
platinum and palladium.

8.

The largest city in Montana,
Billings, is also the economic
capital of the state. A
number of financial
organizations, machinebuilding and
petrochemical plants,
construction and many
other companies are
concentrated here.

9.

The state of Montana is also attractive for its
Glacial National Park, which includes many
glaciers and more than 100 lakes. The grandeur
of the mountains, dense forests, transparent,
clean reservoirs fascinate with their beauty.

10.

Various festivals take place here at
different times of the year: wine (late
spring), balloons (summer), trees
(December), Christmas (late autumn).
Attending these events creates a great
mood and conveys the spirit of the
holiday.
