history of volleyball
The history of volleyball dates back to 1895, when physical education teacher William
Morgan hung a tennis net to a height of about two meters and invited students to throw a
basketball over the net. The place where this happened was the city of Holisk at the state
of Massachusetts.
At first, the number of players in teams, as well as the number of passes
between them on their half, was not limited in any way, and even Morgan called the game
he invented not volleyball, but "Mintonette". Morgan's invention didn't have much in
common with the modern sport, but this episode is considered to be the official starting
point in the history of volleyball.

The Rules
Further development of the game
turned out to be rapid. Already in
1897, it received its current name –
volleyball, and the first official rules
were formulated, but its rules were
still quite far from the current ones:
● 6 team members
● Net height - 243 centimeters
● 15 points to win

In 1922 - exactly a century ago! - a rule was adopted
that became the base for modern volleyball. The
number of touches of the ball by the team in one
attack was limited to three.
