In the American school there are funny
nicknames for students for every school
year, for example:
ninth graders = freshman
tenth graders = sophomores
eleventh graders = juniors
twelfth graders = seniors

This 12- year system is called "K-12". K-12 stands for the
graders for students of various age groups from the
kindergarten age (5 years old) to the 12th grade age (18
years old).

School dress code
Most schools in the United States do
not require uniform, instead off
enforcing a standardized dress code of
what types of clothing are appropriate
for students to wear to school.
Typically, students will wear collared,
buttoned shirts, with a tie for boys and
a tie for girls, worn with khaki trousers,
and a belt, depending on the age of the
school’s students.

School grades
The American grading scale includes a full 5 points, which
are indicated by letters.
Excellent
Good
Satisfactory
Poor
Unsatisfactory
Additionally, "+" and "-" are used, but officially these marks are not taken into
account. In many states, the letter designation of an unsatisfactory grade is different:
instead of E, F (Fail, i.e. "complete failure") or grade U (from Unsatisfactory) is often
used. Students and their parents receive progress reports every six months.

Extracurricular activities
in the American schools
Extracurricular activities exist at all levels of education, from junior high/ high
school, college, university education. It is believed that extracurricular
involvement is very important for personal development.

Extracurricular activities or
extra academic activities are
activities outside the regular
curriculum in a school or
college. These activities
include art, sports, music/
band,
acting
(drama),
various clubs. Sometimes
volunteer activities are also
included here. They are
usually free and alow
students to follow their own
interests while using the
facilities of their place of
study.
