Akan Kargambayevich Sataev was
born on December 23, 1971 in
Karaganda, Kazakhstan. Since early
childhood, Akan dreamed of devoting
his life to the film industry, so after
graduation he entered the Kazakh
National Academy of Arts named after
T. K. Zhurgenov.After graduating from
the academy, Akan began acting in
films and on television, and later began
his directing career. In 2003, Sataev
became the founder of the studio
"Sataifilm", which shot more than 300
commercials.

According to the results of 2014, by popular vote, he was recognized as the best figure
in the film industry of Kazakhstan, becoming the winner of the National Award
"People's Favorite of the Year".In 2016, he founded the Astana Film Fund, which aims
to support Kazakhstani young directors and mass production of low-budget author's
films. In 2016, he shot two full—length films: "Districts", a crime drama about the life
of teenagers in the USSR, and "The Road to Mother", a historical drama about the
period of collectivization, the Great Patriotic War and the post-war years in

«Zhauzhurek myn bala» is a film by Kazakh director
Akan Satayev, telling about the legend of the KazakhDzungarian War. The premiere of the film took place on
December 16, 2011. The film was released in Kazakhstan on
May 3, 2012.
The film was received with delight both at home and
abroad. During the 65th Cannes Film Festival, Pierre
Spangler, a British film producer, commented on the film as
follows: "I am very impressed with the quality of the film
itself, the quality of the acting. Everything is at a high level
— the filmmaking itself, and the epic scope, and tricks, as
well as other elements. All this should attract the viewer. The
more I watched "My Ball", the more diligently I looked for
an excuse to go to Kazakhstan and shoot there myself". The
film has gained particular popularity among young people.
According to many viewers, this picture aroused their interest
in the history of the Kazakh people, national culture and
customs.

"Anaga aparar zhol" is a film by Kazakh
director Akan Satayev, telling about the fate of a
boy named Ilyas. The premiere of the film took
place on September 8, 2016.
The film tells about the boy Ilyas, in whose
fate there were many difficulties. He broke up
with his mother early and could not meet her for
a long time. Ilyas shows incredible fortitude,
patriotism,
courage
and
unprecedented
dedication. Even before the fear of death, he
does not lose hope of reuniting with his mother.

"Tomiris" is a Kazakh feature film directed by
Akan Satayev, telling about the Queen of the
Massagets and Cyrus the Great. The film
premiered in September 2019.
Filming began in December 2017. They were
in different parts of Kazakhstan. The Massaget
heroes in the film speak the ancient Turkic
language, the Persian heroes speak the ancient
Persian.
The film received mixed reviews. This was
due, in particular, to the fact that the version of
events belonging to Herodotus is not generally
accepted, and researchers, as a rule, consider the
Massagets not Turks, but an Iranian-speaking
people. Criticism was voiced by both Kazakh and
Iranian audiences.The film won the Grand Prize
for the Modern genre at the French festival
L'étranger 2020.
