The Chelyabinsk People's House is a people's house built in 1903 in
Chelyabinsk by the Perm architect Rudolf Karvovsky. The oldest public
institution in Chelyabinsk. An architectural monument of federal significance.
The building was built for the organization of leisure activities of citizens.

The facades were finished from Ural granite using forged metal
with high quality, which ensured the long-term preservation of
the building

The People's House opened in November 1903. It housed the
largest theater and concert hall in the city, a library-reading
room (since 1907), a tea room, a museum of visual aids, and
the first kindergarten in the city. The Chelyabinsk Musical
and Dramatic Society held concerts, literary and musical
evenings at the People's House, and staged performances.
During the Russian-Japanese War, the building housed a
military hospital.

V. N. Pashennaya, the Adelheim brothers, and V. F.
Komissarzhevskaya performed on the stage of the People's
House.

Since 1921, the Chelyabinsk City Drama Theater has been
operating in this building.
In 1934-1944, the building was reconstructed. The layout of
the building has changed, the capacity of the auditorium has
increased to 650 seats, an entrance to the ground floor was
organized, where there were wardrobes, a buffet, smoking
rooms and restrooms.
During the Great Patriotic War, the Moscow Academic Maly
Theater worked in the theater.
Currently, the building houses the Chelyabinsk State Drama
Youth Theater.
