1. TON 618

Maltsev Vladislav

2.

• The mass of the black hole associated with
the quasar is 66 billion times the mass of the
Sun. This is one of the largest masses ever
recorded for such an object.

3.

• The light produced by
TON 618 is so bright
that it outshines the
entire surrounding
galaxy. The brightness
of this quasar exceeds
the brightness of the
Sun by 140 trillion
times.

4.

• The emission lines in the
spectrum of TON 618 are
unusually wide, which means
that the gas in the accretion
disk is moving at a very high
speed, about 7000 km/s.

5.

• The object was discovered in
1957 as part of a study of faint
blue stars located outside the
plane of the Milky Way.

6.

• The black hole absorbs matter
with a mass of 3 Suns every
day, and its accretion disk is
heated to 100 million °C.
