■ This pie chart displays the distribution of amateur radio operator categories in Russia as
of April 2023, represented by the authoritative source, i.e. the Union of Radio Amateurs of
Russia (srr.ru). The first and third categories take 31% (11,200 people) and 20% (7,200
people). Together, they form a large part of active radio operators.
■ The second category is the biggest group with 45% (16,100 people). This shows that many
operators stay on this level because it offers good opportunities for communication and is
suitable for most radio activities.
■ The smallest segment is the fourth category with 4% (1,300 people). This may be
explained by the fact that passing exams and getting a license require technical
knowledge and equipment, so fewer beginners enter the hobby every year.
■ We may conclude that in 2023 the radio community in Russia mostly consisted of
operators with stable skills, while the number of newcomers slowly decreased, which
could show growing requirements and a higher entry barrier.
