Team and Group work1
1. Difference Between Group Work and Team Work in the Singapore Method
Group work = students work together but looselyTeam work = students work in a structured,
organized system that guarantees participation of
every learner
• Group Work
• Team Work
• Definition:
Students work together in a group, but their interaction is not
strictly organized.
• Definition:
Students work in permanent teams of four using structured
cooperative learning techniques (structures).
These structures ensure equal participation and individual
accountability.
• Characteristics:
• The work may be uneven: some students work actively, others stay
passive.
• Characteristics:
• Roles are usually not assigned.
• Clear roles in the team (e.g., leader, timekeeper, speaker, materials
manager).
• Students may divide the task and work separately.
• Every student must speak, listen, and participate.
• Not all students are guaranteed to participate.
• Work is evenly distributed among team members.
• The teacher mostly supervises and controls the process.
• The teacher acts as a facilitator, not a controller.
• Example:
Four students get one worksheet. One student does the task, the
rest watch.
• Structures guarantee involvement of every student.
• Example:
In the RoundRobin structure, each member must give one answer
in turn. No one can skip.

“Jobs in Our Town”In our town many people have different jobs.
A doctor works in a hospital and helps sick people.
A teacher works in a school and helps children learn new things.
A firefighter is very brave. He drives a big red fire truck and helps
people in danger.
A police officer keeps the town safe.
A chef cooks tasty food in a restaurant.
A driver takes people from one place to another.
All these people work hard every day.
Every job is important and helps our town live and grow.
