Introduce the Letter Jj
Tell students that they’ll be learning about the letter Jj. Play The Letter J Video
to introduce the letter in a fun way. Then, display and read The Letter j Book.
2 Recognize the Letter Jj
Hold up the Letter Pairs Coloring: Jj Printable to show students
the letter pair. Name the letter, and then have students repeat the
letter name.
Assign these Learning Activities to your students so they can practice
recognizing Jj independently
• Letter Jj Space Maze
• Bubbles Everywhere: Letter Jj
• Letter Jj on the Fence
3 Write Uppercase J and Lowercase j
Display Online Letter Tracing Uppercase Letters: J for the class.
Have students take turns tracing the uppercase letter J on the
display while others write the letter in the air. Then, display
Online Letter Tracing Lowercase Letters: j and repeat the exercise
for lowercase j.
Have students practice writing J and j using the Uppercase Letter
Tracing: J and Lowercase Letter Tracing: j Printables.

4 Match Sound and Letter
Listen to The Letter j Chant as a class. Then, hold up the Letter Pairs
Coloring: Jj Printable, and explain that Jj stands for the /j/ sound. Tap the
letter several times, and have students repeat the sound each time.
Assign Alphabet Bubble Burst: Letter j to students so that they can practice
associating the /j/ sound with the letter Jj independently.
5 Identify the /j/ Sound in Words
Give each student a Letter Pairs Coloring: Jj Printable. Say some words
that begin with j and say some that do not. Have students hold up the
Printable when the word starts with the /j/ sound and keep it down when the
word does not.
Assign All About Jj Memory Match to students so that they can practice
matching pictures of items that begin with Jj independently.
6 Wrap Up
Play The Letter J Video again to conclude the lesson, and invite
students to clap or sing along.
