(1577–1580).

He sailed the Pelican through
the Strait of Magellan,
plundered Spanish shipping
along the coast of South
America, and returned to
England via the Indian Ocean,
becoming the second captain
in history to complete a
circumnavigation.

the Strait of Magellan, a storm carried him
south, discovering the southernmost point
of South America, later called the Drake
