Facets of "Jingxin": FromAncient Filigree to Modern
Technology

Goals
Understand the value of
long-term human labor.
To explore why handmade work remains
adds a sense of "humanity" to an object.
02
Compare traditional
filigree with modern 3D
modeling and casting.
To bridge the gap between ancient heritage and
modern technology, analyzing the technical
differences and time investment.
3.
What is"Jingxin" (匠心)?
Jiangxin (匠心) is true dedication to
one's craft.
It’s when a person doesn't just "do the
job," but pours all their strength, time,
and talent into their work to make it as
high-quality and beautiful as possible.

5.
瓷胎竹编 Cítzhúbi
Before starting to weave, the master
must turn the heavy bamboo trunk
into threads as thin as hair
6.
成都银花丝Yínhu
This is Chengdu silver filigree, which is 1700
years old. The silver thread is thinner than a
human hair, and to prevent the pattern
from breaking, the master weaves the hot
thread together without any forms on
which to draw
7.
I have told you this in order to understand howmuch work, patience, and strength it takes to
create just one piece of art. This is the entire
philosophy of the Bashu craft culture, and it is
this philosophy that gives value to the object

FeatureMy Method (3D Modeling
& Casting)
Chengdu Silver Filigree
Form Creation
A digital model is created on a
computer and printed using a 3D
printer
The frame is handcrafted from thick
silver wire.
Filling & Volume
Liquid gypsum is used to create a
mold, which is then placed in a
kiln to burn out the model and
create a cavity for the metal
The inner space is filled with patterns
made of silver threads that are thinner
than a human hair
Connection Method
The metal is poured into the
gypsum cavity and solidifies as a
single piece
Every single detail and hair-thin
thread is soldered (welded) by hand
Time Investment
From a few hours to a couple of
days (including modeling,
printing, and casting)
From several months to a year
(depending on the complexity of the
piece)
Perfect precision, speed, and the
ability to replicate the model
Uniqueness, "weightlessness" of the
product, and the immense patience of
the master

Conclusion: As long as there are people, thingsmade with a lot of time and effort will always be
valuable. The main difference is that modern 3D
modeling is made to print many copies of
jewelry. But in Chengdu filigree, a person spends
a lot of time to make one perfect piece. It holds
the artist's soul, the pain of mistakes, and the
sadness that can happen to us at any time. Even
with these sacrifices, something is created that
keeps a part of the master inside an object. This
is what true art is.
