1.
Genetically Modified Soybeans1. Product profile
2. Why is it modified?
Soybean is a protein-rich crop grown all over the world.
A large share of it is genetically modified.
• Easier weed control (resistant to herbicides)
• Resistant to insects and plant disease
• Better growth in drought
• Better oil quality and longer shelf life
• Higher productivity
• Cooking oil
• Tofu, soy milk and sauces
• Animal feed
• Many processed foods

3. Advantages and disadvantagesAdvantages
Disadvantages
• One advantage is a higher yield from the same field.
• Farmers can use less pesticide on insect-resistant
plants.
• Drought-tolerant plants give a more stable harvest.
• Healthier oil that lasts longer.
• One disadvantage is that weeds can become
resistant to herbicides.
• Possible risks for the environment and biodiversity.
• Soy can cause an allergy, so safety testing is vital.
• Farmers depend on companies for expensive seeds.

4–5. Our opinion and conclusionWould we buy it?
Do the benefits outweigh the risks?
In our opinion, yes, we would buy GM soybean
products. We believe that approved products have
passed strict safety tests.
In conclusion, the benefits can outweigh the risks if the
crop is tested carefully and farmers protect the
environment.
However, we want clear labels on the package, for
example "contains genetically modified soy".
Higher yields and less pesticide are important, but longterm research must continue.
