«Man is born free, but
everywhere he is in
chains»

3.

Rousseau demanded respect
for the child's age and
individual traits, rejecting
forced learning. His four age
stages each require a distinct
approach (physical, sensory,
mental, moral). This became
the principle of natureconformity, adopted and
reworked by Soviet
pedagogy (Ushinsky,
Makarenko, Sukhomlinsky).

4.

«Patience is bitter,
but its fruit is sweet»

5.

Rousseau insisted on labor
training: the child should learn a
craft and gain knowledge through
experience and observation of
nature. Soviet pedagogy
developed this into polytechnic
education and the school-life
connection, while criticizing his
neglect of systematic knowledge.

6.

«Freedom is obedience to
the law that we set for
ourselves»
