Roboethics. The Formula of Universal Law

victims.
Political issues

Also, death of children

3.

Moral actors
Consequences
Alimard
Can lose his wife and future baby or
be guilty of the death of the family
KAI
Follow request and be guilty of the death
of the family;
Ignore request and of the death of Karina
and not be forgiven by Alimard
Family
The family will be saved since Alimard
remained with them
Moral patients
Karina
Consequences
She may lose the future baby

4.

• Universalism- number of people is in priority and it is
necessary to save the family from four people than one
pregnant girl
• Localism- KAI knows some people and he will save
people, which he knows because they are the priority for
him

5. Deontology

Rightness of an act and not on what results from the act.
Perfect duty: Be true to your promise
Imperfect duty: Not comply with an order
If the Robot saves the life of Karina and her future
baby, then it encourages him to fulfill Alimard's
request. So, perfect duty more preferable.

6. Kantian Formulas

The Formula of Universal Law: "Act only on that maxim
through which you can at the same time will that it should
become a universal law”
Maxim is to safe unborn child’s life.
The Formula of Humanity: “Never act in such a way that we
treat humanity whether in ourselves or in others, as means
only but always as an end in itself”
If this woman would be my wife, I would like to safe her.
The Autonomy Formula: “The idea of the will of every
rational being as a will that legislates universal law”
If I legislate it I would like to safe unborn children.

7. Aristotle’s virtue ethics

• What sort of person should I be? (agent-centered)
This is a golden mean between two vices, this is the
death of Karina and the future baby and to safe all
people.

8. Utilitarian Calculus

Impartiality and Equality:
Act A: Let KAI go back for saving Karina
Alimard, Karina, future baby happy and the family (mother, father and 2
kids) unhappy
(5 happy and 4 unhappy)
Act B: Let KAI move forward for saving the family
Alimard, Karina, future baby unhappy and the family happy
(4 happy and 5 unhappy)
Act A is more preferable than B
Pleasure minus Pain:
Act A produces 5-4=1 units of happiness
Act B produces 4-5=-1 units of happiness
Act A is more preferable than B
Intensity:
Act A produces 5*8=40 degrees of pleasure
Act B produces 4*6=36 degrees of pleasure
Act A is more preferable than B
Duration:
Act A gives 5*9=45 days of happiness
Act B gives 4*8=32 days of happiness
Act A is more preferable than B

9.

Desirability
Feasibility
Moral
Save a girlfriend and
and her child
May die the whole
family.
Legal
Destroy the law of
Asimov
Follow the law and
make a choice who to
save.
Political
Avoid vices

10. Our opinion:

• Decision:
We will support of KAIS’s position that he will follow the
request of Alimard and come to rescue his girlfriend .
In this case, all people will be alive because Alimard
will rescue a family, KAI will rescue Karina and
everyone will be OK.
• Alternative:
If the old building was protected by security rules,
then there would be a great opportunity for the fact
that both Robot and her boyfriend would remain with
Karina. Also, the family would be safe too.
