6. The late period of creativity
The late period of creativity, which began after movingfrom Paris to the south of France, is very
controversial, but at the same time most fruitful. The
bright nature of Provence inspired the artist to write
very vibrant and colorful landscapes. But at the
same time, in the soul of the artist, the illness that
eventually led to his death ripened. During periods
of crisis, he writes pictures, conveying a depressing
sense of hopelessness, embracing it. The artist
chooses gloomy color combinations, deforms
objects. In one of those moments of desperation,
tired of fighting the insanity, Vincent van Gogh fired
a pistol from himself. This happened on July 29,
1890 in the city of Auvers-sur-Oise (France).
