• II. Application procedure (deadline
1st April 2018)
• Letter of motivation (including activities outside studies related to the study field in Latvia or in
the home country, e. g. work in professional organisations, participation in scientific conferences,
international projects)
• Copies of two letters of recommendation from academic staff members, signed within the last six
months
• Curriculum Vitae (CV). Please use the Europass template:
• Photocopies of diplomas of higher education and supplements or a transcript of records of the
last two study semesters (if studies are not completed)

Study plan for duration of the scholarship. Please use the form:
A copy of a certificate or other document certifying the language proficiency required for studies
Copy of an ID (identification document) or a passport.
A copy of a letter of the relevant Latvian higher education institution,
• An applicant has to register in the system and make a profile with a unique login
and password. On-line application form is here. After that an application form
can be filled in on-line and necessary documents can be attached there as well.

For this:
• It’s usually done (application) routinely at day 1 in mobility unit
(photoshoot)
• Technically it takes couple of weeks to get them ready
• Give you assess to reserve texbooks (they are more than enough there in
library) and badges needed for practical classes in hospitals

Local students have courses (Pathology of organs and systems, Environmental medicine, etc.) that we
already finished at home university and don’t need to take, so they aren’t included in table

13. Books

• Latvian University (LU) has several libraries
orientated by faculties, including 24/7 working
one at the building of Scientific center of LU
• Medical books’re available only in main
building library at Raina blv.
• Books are either in Latvian &English at the
same high quality
• You can reserve then take them home or read
over there as in ordinary libraries

16. Classes

• Duration is according to number of ESTC
• SIWT, SIW are not required !!!
• Type of classes – discussion with
colleagues, dialogue with teacher
• During the each course you are
supposed to have general 2 colloquiums
and may have little written control work
on each class (some cycles)
• During Obstetrics we had extra tasks:
scientific report defense and patient
history presentation

• If according to the results of colloquium you got
the mark from 1-3 this means you failed !
(unsatisfactory mark)
• This situation gives you the right to redo your
test several times until you get mark higher than
3
• Redoings are out of charge for exchange
students and the date should be arranged in
advance with your teacher !

18. Tips from personal experience

• Use for preparation the textbooks from “LANGE”, “Oxford” edition
• Use for preparation the latest European & American Guidelines
• Prepare in advance for each class, make notes
• Be informed about statistics and other rates in your country
• Never cheat ! It is not common in European culture !
• If on the colloquium you understand you will get low mark (4-5), but
you wanted higher one, its better to fail completely and then prepare
and redo it.

20. We had full exams on following subjects:

• Obstetrics (Practical skills evaluations + 5 random questions with oral
answers, the approx. 100 questions were known in advance)
• Dermatovenerology (Multiple option Tests + Clinical picture
recognition)
• Algology (Multiple option Tests)
• Clinical practice II (Practical skills evaluations)
• Exception: Internal diseases I (final mark was counted on average of
colloquium results, because the course by itself continues on II
semester)

21. Rules of exams

• Redoing the exam in case you got the mark from 1-3 is done by
money, amount of which differs by department of subject, approx. 25
EUR.
• So its better to do your best and not to fail !
