In Iraq, a state program had been developed and was being implemented,
which envisaged an increase in the flow of tourists by 2016 up to 5
million people annually, and in subsequent years - up to 10 million
inbound tourists. But in fact the Iraqi tourism sector is currently
underdeveloped instability and insecurity.

Military conflict started in 2011.
In January 2018 Syria attended the International Tourism Trade Fair in
Madrid for the 1st time since 2011, when the war broke out. ALEPPO was
advertised, along with other destinations in Syria.
