UNIFIED APPROACH TO ENGLISH TEACHING*
Major goals are to:
learn to communicate in English,

use English for your studies and research.

OPTIONAL ENGLISH PROGRAM
• is an additional discipline to the main suite;
• free for all students;
• is used for student’s rating.

5. Stages of studying English

STAGES OF STUDYING ENGLISH
Discipline «English»: 1st and 2nd years of study;
Discipline «Academic writing in English»: 4th year of study.

6. Assessment benchmarks

ASSESSMENT BENCHMARKS
1 year– exam (4 module);
2 year– exam (3 module);
4 year– exam, research proposal defense.

1 year: 1-4 modules (1st stage)
2 year : 1-3 modules (2nd stage)
14 credits (8 + 6)

8. «English» (1st year)

«ENGLISH» (1ST YEAR)
Study business English and academic English.
Weekly classes.
Exam - 2 module.
Final grade = 0,6 accumulated score 1-4 modules + 0,4 exam 2 module

RATING
Final grades are a part of cumulative rating but are not included into the current rating.

Compulsory assessment: for all 1st year students.

Based on international testing standards (IELTS, TOEFL, CAE) and
equals B2+ C1 levels

2 finals grades: “English” and exam.

14. Intensive program

INTENSIVE PROGRAM
if you have not studied English before (you don’t have English in your
school document) and you studied another foreign languages;
assessment is unified for all students.

«ENGLISH» (2ND YEAR)
Study academic and professional English.
Weekly classes.
Final score =
60% accumulated 1-3 modules,
40% exam 2nd module (!).

Compulsory assessment
External Exam: 3rd module
2 scores: “English” and exam.

17. «Academic writing in English» (4th year)

«ACADEMIC WRITING IN ENGLISH» (4TH YEAR)
Research proposal.
Weekly classes: 1-3 modules.

Research proposal to apply for a program
Research proposal to demonstrate skills in research writing, argumentation, critical thinking
Research proposal is not the same as Diploma paper
