Our Stavropol region is rich in cultural and
historical monuments and sights.
People keep carefully documents and materials
about events and people created our history.
Glory to all of them who made a lot for our

Chapter IMonuments in Stavropol
The main city of our region Stavropol is in the list of historical places of our
country. It was founded in 1777 as a fortress to protect the southern boarders of
Russia.
The cultural heritage of Stavropol is represented by ancient buildings,
monuments, memorial places. There are 167 historical places in the city.
Among them are the monuments to A. Suvorov, A. Pushkin, M. Gorki, N.E.
Nikiforaki, A.P. Yermolov, K.L. Hetagurov and Historical-cultural museum of G.
Prozritelev and G. Prave.
The museum is famous for its exhibitional activity.

governor-general N.E. Nikiforaki.
He was the first governorgeneral of Stavropol province.
He made a lot for the province
and for the city.
The monument to the First Teacher.
The monument was constructed on
the initiative of ex-governor A.
Chernogorov.
The avenue of
Honourable People of
Stavropol region.

The monument to M. Lermontovis on the theatrical square. The
Stavropol Drama Theatre is
named after M. Lermontov.
The monument to A. Pushkin
was set up in 1987 to 150th anniversary
of his death. It is situated on the
southern slope of Fortress Mountain.

A.P. Yermolov is theoutstanding Russian
military leader. He
was the commanderin-chief of the first
period of Cacausian
war. He did a lot for
the development of
our region. The
monument to A.P.
Yermolov was set up
in 1998 not far from
Tifliss Gate.

The monument to K.Hetagurov was set up on
the crossing of K. Marks
Street and Hetagurov Street.
K. Hetagurov was the poet,
artist, sculptor and the
founder of Osset literature.
He studied in Stavropol
gymnasium and later he
worked in the newspaper
“North Caucasus”

On Fortress Mountain is themonument to A.V. Suvorov. It
was set up in 1976. He was
commander-in-chief
of
Caucasian line in 1778 and he
visited Stavropol fortress
many times.

Chapter IIMonuments in Pyatigorsk
Our city may be proud of the history
of our city. It has a lot of historical places and
monuments to well-known people.
The first monument to our famous poet M.
Lermontov was set up in our town. It was set
on the 16 of August 1898. Nowadays there
are concerts, festivals dedicated to M.
Lermontov at the monument.

When you come to our city by train,you’ll see the monument to S.M. Kirov. He was
the famous revolutionary and did a lot for our
city. The first monument was set up in 1940 on
the square at the railway station. The second
monument was set in 1959.
If you walk along Kirov street, you’ll see the
monument to another revolutionary G.
Andjievsky.
G. Andjievsky was the Chaiman of the
Soviet deputies in Pyatigorsk. The first
monument was set up at the fountain
“Dwarfs” in the square on the 7th of
November 1925. That square was called
Andjievsky. By 1934 the monument became
very dilapidated. The new monument was set
up in 1936 in Pushkin square. Then that square
was renamed into Andjievsky square.

On Kirov street there is amonument to Nina Poptsova. She
fought against fascists. She did a lot
for liberation of our city. The
monument to N. Poptsova was set up
in 1961, sculptor M.G. Minkin.
Lieutenant- General P.M. Koslov took
part in the liberation of our city from
fascists. His monument is on the
central square of Goryachevodsk. It
was set up in 1957.

Yuri Gagarin was the firstcosmonaut in our country and all
over the world. There is an obelisk
to this famous person. It was set
up near the former cinema
“Kosmos” in 1969. The sculptor E.
N. Rukavishnikov made the obelisk
and presented it to the city.

Near the ScientificResearch Institute of Health
Resort
there
is
a
monument to the great
Russian poet A.S. Pushkin.
It was a gift of the sculptor
Anikushin to our city. It was
set up in 1982. On the
ceremony there were 70
poets from 15 soviet
republics and abroad.

In park “Flower Garden”near the central drinking
gallery there is a monument to
Cossack Mother. It was set up
on the 26th of September
2015. The author of this
project is Ravil Yussupov.
Mother and children see their
father to war. According to the
idea of the author the Cossack
family is the base of strength of
spirit and traditional bringing
up.

in the small beautiful
square there is a
monument to L.N.
Tolstoi. The monument
was set up in 2005 and
it is dedicated to the
225th anniversary of
our city. The author of
the monument is the
citizen of Lermontov
Svetlana Avakova.

The monument to Ossetpoet Kosta Hetagurov was set up on
November 25, 2009. It is situated
not far from the main city square.
The sculptor is George Sabeev. The
Rector of the Institute of Economy
and Management V.Vazagov and P.
Kussov the director of Pyatigorsk
Electricity Department suggested to
establish this monument. The Osset
community supported this idea.

The monument to AnnaTsalikova. It is on her grave. She
was a teacher. K. Hetagurov
loved her and dedicated her a
lot of poems and letters. He
also made her portrait. In 1915
sculptor V.V. Kozlov designed a
monument to Anna Tsalikova.
On the monument we can see
a desk, a blackboard and a
teacher with pupils.

is a monument to
general
A.P.
Yermolov. It was
set
up
on
September
11,
2010. The sculptor
is Ravil Yussupov.

Enjoying wonderful viewsfrom the top of Mashuk you can’t
but noticing the monument to A.V.
Pastukhov, the famous explorer of
the North Caucasus. It is on the
southern slope of Mashuk. Not tall
obelisk with a cross and a basrelief looked to the East according
to the orthodox tradition. It was
made by the well-known sculptor
Andreoletti and his sons in Tifliss.
Nowadays it looks to the South.
The original bas-relief was lost and
the new one was made by the
sculptor M.G. Minkin.
