In mid-2010 a reorganization was announced which joined
military districts and the navy's fleets into four Joint Strategic
Commands. Geographically divided, the four commands were:

In 2014, the Arctic Joint Strategic Command
“North” was established by the Russian military
on the basis of the North Fleet, then reinforced
with personnel and equipment from the Western,
Central and Eastern Military Districts based in
