Medieval theatre
refers to theatrical performance in
the period between the fall of the
Western Roman Empire in the 5th
century A.D. and the beginning of
the Renaissance in approximately
the 15th century A.D.
This period is closely related to the
church, which influenced the
theatre as well.

Liturgical drama, in the Middle Ages,
type of play acted within or near the church and
relating stories from the Bible and of the saints.
Although they had their roots in the Christian liturgy,
such plays were not performed as essential parts of a
standard church service.
The language of the liturgical drama was Latin,
so a lot of people were not able to understand the
language, however the story was communicated
through acting using gestures.
