education and work experience of
at least five years, permanently
resides in the territory of the
relevant region, city of republican
significance or the capital of the
Republic for at least three years.

The exclusive jurisdictionof the Senate includes:

1) election and dismissal of the Chairmanof the Supreme Court and judges of the
Supreme Court of the Republic on the
proposal of the President of the
Republic of Kazakhstan, taking their
oath;

2) giving consent to the appointment bythe President of the Republic of the
Chairman of the National Bank, the
Prosecutor General, the Chairman of
the National Security Committee of the
Republic;
14.
3) deprivation of immunity of theProsecutor General, the President and
judges of the Supreme Court of the
Republic;
15.
4) fulfillment of the functions of theParliament of the Republic on the
adoption of constitutional laws and
laws during the period of the temporary
absence of the Mazhilis, caused by the
early termination of its powers;
16.
5) exercise of other powers assigned bythe Constitution to the Senate of the
Parliament.

The Chamber is headed by thePresident, elected by the Senate from
among the deputies who are fluent in
the state language, by secret ballot by a
majority of votes of the total number of
deputies of the Chamber. A candidate
for the post of Chairman of the Senate
is nominated by the President of the
Republic of Kazakhstan.

The Mazhilis consists of 107 deputies. 98deputies of the Mazhilis are elected from
political parties by party lists in a single
nationwide constituency on the basis of
universal, equal and direct suffrage by
secret ballot. 9 deputies of the Mazhilis are
elected by the Assembly of the People of
Kazakhstan.

The term of office of theMazhilis deputies is 5 years.

A person who has reached twentyfive years of age can be a deputyof the Mazhilis.

The Mazhilis, by a majority of votesfrom the total number of Mazhilis
deputies, on the initiative of at least

The Government of the Republic ofKazakhstan exercises executive power,
heads the system of executive bodies and
manages their activities. The Head of
Government is appointed by the President
after approval of the candidacy of the Prime
Minister by the majority of the Parliament
of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The personal
composition of the Government is appointed
by the President upon the nomination of the
Prime Minister.
