Anatomy is the identification and description of thestructures of living things. Anatomy is a branch of
biology and medicine which can be divided into three
broad areas: human anatomy, zootomy (animal
anatomy), and phytotomy (plant anatomy).
3.
WHAT DOES ANATOMY STUDY?Anatomy is the study of the inside of the
body. Anatomy notes the position and structure
of organs such as muscles, glands and bones. A
person who studies anatomy is an anatomist.
Anatomy can be divided into Gross Anatomy
(macroscopic anatomy) and Microscopic Anatomy.
4.
WHAT IS GROSS ANATOMY(ТOPOGRAPHICAL АNATOMY)?
Topographical anatomy or macro anatomy,
refers to the study of the biological structures that
may be seen with the naked eye.
Gross anatomy may involve dissection or
noninvasive methods; the aim is to acquire data
about the larger structures of organs and organ
systems.
5.
WHAT IS MICROSCOPIC ANATOMY(HISTOLOGY)?
Histology is the study of cells and tissues of animals,
humans and plants that are too small to been seen
with the naked eye.
Microscopic anatomy commonly involves studying
tissues and cells by sectioning and staining
(histological techniques), and then looking at them
under an electron or light microscope.
6.
HUMAN ANATOMYHuman anatomy is the study of the structures of the
human body. Most health care related studies require
some or extensive training in gross anatomy and
histology.

8.
HOW IS MICROSCOPIC ANATOMYDIFFERENT FROM MACROSCOPIC?
Microscopic anatomy is the study with a
microscope.
Macroscopic anatomy is observation,
examination of the body with the naked eye.
Medical students will be required to do practical
anatomical work, which involves dissection and
inspecting cadavers.
