Kazakhstan
• Nauryz is a very important holiday for Kazakhs, which marks the beginning of a new year. It is
celebrated several days starting from 21st of March, the day of the spring equinox.
• Nauryz means ‘new day’, it is celebrated in the Great Steppes from ancient times.
• Nauryz symbolizes goodness and wealth, happiness and love and a great friendship day, since this
holiday is common for many nations.
• During Nauryz celebrations, past offences are forgiven and forgotten and everybody makes a wish
to leave all badness behind and bring renewal in the New Year.

Capital city day
• Capital City Day, also known as Day of Nur-Sultan
(Astana) is a public holiday in Kazakhstan and is
celebrated on July 6th.
• If July 6th falls on a weekend, a public holiday will
be observed on the following Monday. If July 6th
falls on a Tuesday or Thursday, an additional day's
holiday may be observed to create a long
weekend.
• Capital City Day commemorates the switch of the
capital of Kazakhstan from Almaty to Astana.
• In March 2019, Astana was renamed Nur-Sultan,
in honour of veteran leader Nursultan Nazarbayev
who resigned as President after 30 years as the
country's leader.

Great Britain
• Halloween is held October 31st on
the eve of the Western Christian
holiday of All Saints Day. This is a
time dedicated to the memory of
the dead, saints, martyrs. Unlike
the United States, this is a relatively
calm event: children put on
costumes and walk around the
neighborhood with the famous
phrase Trick or treat, collecting
treats. Neighbors very rarely let
children play themselves, but prefer
to treat them with sweets.

Christmas
• The British celebrate Christmas December 25th - this is the main
family and state holiday. Christmas markets are held in many UK cities
and are becoming popular places to visit with friends and family. At
this time, it is customary to buy gifts for loved ones, to cook
traditional dishes - turkey, pudding, hot alcoholic drinks. Christmas
trees, garlands and candles are put in the houses. Children hang socks
near the Christmas tree or fireplace, where in the morning parents
will lay out gifts.

• Washington's Birthday, February, 22d:
• In addition to commemorating the birth of the United States' first
President, it's a great day for shoppers. The department stores of
Washington, DC, stated a national tradition of sales marked by
unusual bargains. It is not a national holiday. Many schools, offices
and banks close for this day, some stay open. The US Congress
observes the birthday of George Washington with speeches and
readings from his works.

Easter
• Easter is in memory of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. It falls on the
first Sunday after the first full moon between March, 22, and April,
25. The 40 days before Easter are called Lent. Just before Easter,
schools and colleges usually close. Students have a week or ten days
of spring vacation. Easter is a church holiday, and many churches have
an outdoor sunrise service. People give each other presents of eggs
which are the symbol of new life. There is a popular belief that
wearing three new things on Easter will bring good luck throughout
the year.
