Easter is celebrated on the first
Sunday after the Paschal full moon,
which is the first full moon on or after
21 March.
Easter is a moveable Christian feast it
is not fixed in relation to the civil
calendar.
According to the Canonical Gospels,
Jesus Christ rose from the dead on
the third day
after His Crucifixion.

The last Friday before Easter is Holy Friday.
It is a Christian holiday commemorating the crucifixion
of Jesus and his death at Calvary, or Golgotha.
It is also known as Holy Friday, Great Friday, Great
and Holy Friday (also Holy and Great Friday),
and Black Friday

The Easter Season Светлая (пасхальная) седмица
• the Easter Season begins on
Easter Sunday and lasts seven
weeks. It ends with the coming
of the 50th day, Pentecost
Sunday.
• In Eastern Christian countries,
the Paschal season ends with
Pentecost as well. The Pascha
leave-taking is on the 39th day,
the day before the Ascension.

Paschal greeting
On the Easter Sunday all the people usually greet each
other with these words:
“Christ is risen!” And the response is “He is risen indeed.”
In Russia and Serbia people exchange a triple kiss of
peace on the cheeks after the greeting.

Easter service
There is a special church service in Russia and England.
English and Russian people bring Easter baskets to consecrate food from
it.
In England church service is at sunrise.
In Russia church services are at midnight and in the morning.

Eggs
Egg-rolling from the hill is a traditional Easter pastime which still flourishes
in Britain. Unfortunately, Russian children have forgotten this tradition.

Traditional Easter Meals
In Russia people usually
cook kulichs and make
them consecrated.
In England people treat
hot cross buns to each
other.

Easter food
In England:
The main Easter meal is a baked lamb and spring salad. They
also bake traditional Easter cake - Simnel cake.
In Russia: The traditional Easter meals are kulich and
pascha. People usually start cooking them on Thursday.

Spring Flowers
Lily is known as the Easter lily because in Christianity, it is a symbol of the resurrection
of Christ, which is celebrated during Eastertide (also known as Eastertime or
the Easter season).
The "lily has always been highly regarded in the Church", as Jesus Himself referenced
the flower, saying "Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and
yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these"
(Luke 12:27).
It is also the symbol of the hope and motherhood.
Easter is also the time when everybody waits for spring.
In England people decorate churches and houses with flowers.

Easter Bunny
The Easter bunny tradition first appeared in Germany.
The children put out their empty baskets for the Easter bunny to
fill while they sleep. They wake to find their baskets filled with
candy eggs and other treats by the Easter bunny.
When children wake up, they run about trying to find the eggs.
The Bunny is a symbol of fertility and prosperity.
