Nursing in Russia. HistoryIn Russia, the history of the profession of
a nurse has its roots in the 18th century.
And it begins with the appearance of the
service of sympathetic widows.
The idea of establishing systematic
patient care by specially trained staff of
the widow's home for these purposes
belongs to Empress Maria Feodorovna.
Back in 1804 she put forward the idea of
attracting widows to care for the sick in
the Moscow widow's home, but only in
1813 these plans were realized in St.
Petersburg.
5.
21 widows were chosen from among thosewho wished, and on January 1, 1814, they
began their duties. The duty of the
compassionate patients was carried out in the
Mariinsky Hospital in groups of 8 people,
which changed after 2 weeks. Each group
was divided into 2 shifts – one for the male
and female halves of the surgical department,
and the other for the therapeutic department.
Widows were kept at the expense of the
widow's house, the hospital gave them only a
room and incurred some additional expenses.
6.
The widows on duty had to supervise the order in thewards, when distributing food, drink and medicines to the
sick, for keeping both the patients and their beds clean
and tidy.
The doctors gave the widows the necessary instructions
on patient care, and the widows on duty learned from
them all medical techniques in order to help the sick
themselves if necessary.
The attendants had to accompany the doctor to all the
wards and listen carefully to his instructions and orders.
Widows were forbidden to bother doctors with empty
complaints and denunciations, for which they could be
excluded from the number of compassionate.
7.
Being responsible is not about doing everything yourself or delegatingresponsibility to several people. This is ensuring that each person fulfills
the responsibility assigned to him.

necessary to pass an interview with the boss, with whom further
cooperation is to be carried out. It is necessary to be prepared in
basic medical terms, demonstrate high knowledge of
specialization, and also be ready to work in stressful situations.
With the ability and desire to work, you can get a position as a
senior nurse. If a nurse has a university degree, it will be a
significant advantage for her.
A nurse should love her profession otherwise she will not succeed.
A person is obliged to feel responsible for the sick, so before you
step on the medical path, you should weigh all the pros and cons.
This often helps in choosing the next path.
