предмета в определенном месте

Переводить предложение с этой конструкцией следует с
обстоятельства места (т.е с конца предложения). А если
обстоятельства места нет, то переводить следует словами
есть, имеется, находится, …, и никак не переводится
Пример:
There is a cat on the sofa.
На диване есть кошка.
На диване имеется кошка.
На диване находится кошка.
На диване лежит кошка.
На диване кошка.

Выбор формы is или are зависит от числа
последующего
за
оборотом
существительного. Если дальше идёт
существительное в единственном числе,
то ставим IS.
There is a sofa and two armchairs in the
living room.
А если во множественном числе, то ставим
ARE.
There are two armchairs and a sofa in the
living room.

Questions
Вопросы формируются обычной
перестановкой (подлежащее «there»
меняется местами со сказуемым «be»):
There is a sofa in the living-room.
Is there a sofa in the living-room?

Краткий отрицательный ответ состоит из
слова «no», за которым следуют «there» и
глагол «to be» в соответствующей форме с
отрицательной частицей «not»:
Is there a sofa in the living-room?
Yes, there is.
No, there is not.
