2.

• The liberal democratic party of Russia (LDPR) is an
officially registered political party in the Russian Federation.
Since its Foundation, it has positioned itself as an
opposition party.
• It is the direct successor of the liberal democratic party of
the Soviet Union, established on December 13, 1989. The
LDPR is one of three Russian political parties that
participated in the election of deputies to the State Duma of
the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation in all
seven convocations, and one of two parties that always
received representation in the lower house of Parliament as
a result of elections.

3.

• The party was created by transforming the liberal democratic
party of the Soviet Union into the liberal democratic party of
Russia at the third Congress of the political party (April 18-19,
1992). Fulfilling the requirements of the Federal law "on political
parties" adopted in 2001, the LDPR was reorganized from an allRussian socio-political party into a political party by the decision
of the XIII party Congress (December 13, 2001).

4.

• Since its founding, the party has been chaired by Vladimir
Zhirinovsky. The highest governing body of the LDPR is
the party Congress, which is responsible for electing the
Supreme Council and the party Chairman.

5.

• According to the provisions of the LDPR ideology (2010),
the party stands for five main ideals-liberalism,
democracy, patriotism, justice and law and order. The
liberal democratic party categorically rejects the
Communist ideology and Marxism as a whole.
