2. Heroic and tragic events of the siege of Leningrad

The courage of Leningrad residents who did not surrender their city to the
Nazi invaders was immortalized in the exhibits of the museum that opened
in 1946.
Political events of that time did not always give in to logical explanations in February 1953 the museum was closed, and the collection was
disbanded according to military units and state security funds.

3. Numerous appeals by citizens and a public discussion of the problem did their job - on September 8, 1989, the Museum of Defense

and Siege of
Leningrad reopened its doors to visitors.
Objects and documents were collected by the whole world for the
exposition - museums allocated part of the exhibits, veteran blockaders
shared their relics.

4.

Currently, the museum’s collection
contains over 53 thousand
exhibits. Among them: 7 thousand
works of graphic art, painting and
sculpture, 19 thousand manuscriptdocumentary materials, 3.7 thousand
objects of soldier and siege life, as
well as 20 thousand photographs, 3.5
thousand orders, medals and signs,
over 500 pieces of equipment and
weapons, books published in
besieged Leningrad.

5. The history of defensive battles and blockades is represented by unique items. Temporary exhibitions held at the museum reveal

unknown facts of the siege
epic.
The exhibition "Road of Life" spoke
about the transportation of food,
medicine and people to the
besieged city. Lake Ladoga was
the only artery connecting
Leningrad with the country.
Communication lines were laid
along its bottom, and a gas
pipeline was functioning.

OF SOMETHING ELSE - WINTER IS
ON THE STREET.

7.

the key topics of the updated
exposition of the State Memorial
Museum of Defense and the
Siege of Leningrad were fighting
on the Leningrad Front, the
organization of traffic on Lake
Ladoga, as well as coverage of
the life of Leningraders in the
surrounded city in 1941-1944.
In the central part of the hall there is an
exposition about the everyday life and
struggle of citizens in the conditions of
war and blockade, about how food
supply was provided, how life was
arranged in wartime, urban economy,
how transport worked.

8.

Not a single Petersburg museum will give
such a full-blown picture of the blockade of
Leningrad and the battle for the city, as the
museum in Solyaniy Lane does. The
museum’s activities are entirely devoted to
the history of the Leningrad battle during
the Second World War. Its extensive
exposition presents documents and
personal belongings of the times of World
War II: banners, partisan awards, personal
belongings and documents of the Heroes
of the Soviet Union, military uniform,
fragments of ships and ships, unique
photographs, maps.

9. Conclusion

This topic will always be relevant, we must remember and honor the
memory of those who fought for us! I chose this topic because I live near
the places where the battles took place. I was in this museum, and I
advise you to visit it.
