• Location: Central Europe, south of Poland and
sharing borders with Austria, Czech Republic,
Hungary, Poland and Ukraine.
• Capital: Bratislava.
• Climate: generally warm summers; cold, cloudy,
humid winters.
• Population: 5.4 million.
• Ethnic Make-up: Slovak 85.8%, Hungarian 9.7%,
Roma 1.7%, Ruthenian/Ukrainian 2,8%.
• Religions: Roman Catholic 68.9%, Protestant 10.8%,
Greek Catholic 4.1%, other or unspecified 3.2%,
none 13%.
• Government: parliamentary democracy.

3. Something that makes culture of Slovakia stand out

1) Traditional Slovak music consists of:
herbalist - choral singing without instruments
playing fujar - a traditional Slovak instrument
Orchestra: playing the violins, double bass and bass.
2) Slovak literature.
3) Slovak National Theater.

4. Traditions

1) Invited guests usually brings wine, chocolate or
flowers, which should be an odd amount. However, the
number of 13 colors should be avoided - many Slovaks
are quite superstitious.
2) Slovaks mourn the deceased loved ones throughout the
year. Daughters and widows all this time dress in
black.
3) Slovaks are quite closed and do not show their
emotions outside the family and company of close
friends.

• The Serbian language (Serbian. Srpski Gezik /
srpski jezik) is one of the Slavic languages.
Together with the Bulgarian, Macedonian,
Slovenian, Montenegrin, Croatian and Bosnian, it
belongs to the South Slavic subgroup.

• Slovakia is proud of its rich folklore traditions. Each
region, city or village has its own character and its own
folklore, manifested in clothing, music, songs,
architecture, beliefs, dances and dialectal features of the
language.
• The largest folk culture festivals take place in Vihodna,
Miyava and Detva.
