Mikhail Yuryevich Lermontov

Mikhail Yuryevich Lermontov (1814-1841) was a
great Russian poet and novelist, as well as a
talented artist and playwright, whose works had a
huge influence on writers of the 19th and 20th
centuries. His work is known for a wide variety of
themes and motifs of lyrics. The poet made an
invaluable contribution to the formation of the
realistic novel of the 19th century.

Mikhail Yuryevich Lermontov was born in Moscow
on October 15, 1814. The grandmother of the
future poet, Elizaveta Alekseevna, who had to
raise the boy from early childhood, belonged to
the famous Stolypin family of nobles.
Two-year-old Misha was left without a mother.
Elizaveta Alekseevna, who blamed her son-in-law
for the early death of her daughter, was 44 years
old at the time.

Youth years When Lermontov turned 14, his
grandmother took him to the capital to enroll
in a Noble boarding school at Moscow
University. This educational institution was
considered privileged. They taught there for
six years. Students had the same rights to
rank as university graduates. Such
celebrities as: Griboyedov, Zhukovsky,
Ogarev, Odoevsky, Tyutchev studied in the
walls of this boarding school. In 1828 , the

After moving to St. Petersburg,
Lermontov wants to go to university
again. But they refuse to count 2 years
of study in Moscow and enroll again in
the 1st year.After graduation, Mikhail
Yurievich became a cornet in the
Hussar Regiment

In February 1840, after Lermontov
returned from exile to the Caucasus,
Envious Mikhail Yuryevich informed
the present son of the French
ambassador Ernest de Barant that
the poet had written a caustic
epigram to him. Barant demanded a
duel. The resolution of the conflict
took place on February 18 of the
same year behind the Black
River.Mikhail Yurievich was an
excellent shooter. This time he
decided not to aim, the Frenchman
simply missed. Despite the fact that
there were no casualties in this duel,
Lermontov paid for it with arrest for
a long time

The duel between Martynov and
Lermontov took place at seven o'clock in
the evening on July 15, 1841. It
happened in the city of Pyatigorsk near
Mount Mashuk. As a result of the duel,
Lermontov received a wound
incompatible with life. The poet died on
the spot and was buried in Pyatigorsk.
