Cecilia Garofano’s passion for an ingredient charged with suggestion

THE MIRACLE OF TEA
All different types of tea come from the same
plant: Camellia Sinensis cultivated in Asia and
in some African regions.
Tea polyphenols are called catechins and help fight
free radicals, responsible for the aging processes of
the cells and the formation of 4 out of 5 wrinkles.
Camellia Sinensis contains more than 30% of
polyphenols. This is one of the highest
concentrations available in nature and has an
antioxidant power 200 times higher than
vitamin E.

92% of the planet’s population lives in polluted areas. Smog, toxic emissions and particulate matter are some of the
major concerns that we face on a daily basis.
People are increasingly aware of how pollution can affect their lives and damage their skin.
To evaluate the anti-pollution capacity of our Tea infusions, a clinical test was conducted by a certified and
independent body that demonstrated that the Teaology Tea infusions:

BIOCOMPATIBLE SKINCARE
Skin’s pH is related to the acid mantle, made up of lipids, protective substances, and
microbiome, which is key to skin’s protective barrier.
The skin pH is slightly acidic and typically between 4.2 and 6.
Preserving the natural pH level for your acid mantle is important because it helps keep
the skin in balance and avoids dryness, dehydration, irritation, rosacea, dermatitis.
One of many external factors capable to disrupt skin’s pH balance are skincare products. Using products that are too
alkaline or too acidic can result in inflammation, redness, and breakouts.
Teaology products are biocompatible because they are all formulated to have a skin-friendly pH
with tested values ranging from 5 to 6.8 .
Teaology products are also free from controversial ingredients like silicones, PEG’s, drying alcohol
so they can be mixed together or used one after the other, without overloading the skin.

Clean Beauty is ever evolving and so are evolving the guidelines to monitor and classify the cleanliness
and naturality of products and ingredients.
Teaology Clean Beauty is two of the guidelines we adopt when selecting materials and validating new
products:
- ISO 16128 to define the percentage of naturality of our products in a certified way, so to grant the
best reliability for our customers.
- EWG’s Skin Deep Database and Yuka App to check the potential hazards and health concerns of the
ingredients a formula may contain and get a score assessing its safety.

NATURAL ORIGIN CONTENT ACCORDING TO ISO 16128
Teaology products percentages of natural origin ingredients are obtained applying the ISO 16128 regulation: Guidelines
on technical definitions and criteria for natural and organic cosmetic ingredients and products.
This international standard has been developed to face the lack of a regulated definition of “natural” or “organic” with
respect to cosmetics.
ISO 16128 is divided in two complementary parts :
Part 1: definition of ingredients and the criteria
that allow them to be considered natural, natural
derived, organic or organic derived.
Part 2: definition of the natural and organic indexes of
the ingredients, and the calculation method to derive
the natural and organic % of the finished product.
Since Teaology is a clean but not an organic cosmetic brand, we focused in highlighting the natural origin content; so the
only index taken into account was the natural origin index (n.o.i).
This index (n.o.i), with values ranging from 0 to 1, indicates the extent to which a cosmetic ingredients meets the definition
of either natural ingredients, derived natural ingredients or derived mineral ingredients given in ISO 16128- Part 1.
From these values, the percentage of the total natural origin content of the Teaology cosmetic product is derived, ranging
from 90 to 99%.

EWG SKIN DEEP AND YUKA EVALUATIONS
Teaology product formulas are pre-evaluated using the EWG’s Skin Deep, a landmark
tool among American Clean Beauty brands, which assigns a score to the product based
on the potential hazards and health concerns of the ingredients it contains according to
EU, Japan, Canada and U.S regulation medical and scientifical databases.
Skin Deep product score, from 1 to 10, reflects known and
suspected hazards linked to the ingredients. It is calculated using a
weight-of-evidence approach that factors in all the environmental
and health impacts associated with the ingredients.
This French platform has lately become a major landmark for Clean Beauty Brand and is now used by
more than 10 million European consumers.
Based on the current state of science, each ingredient is assigned a risk level according to its potential/ proven health
effects. Ingredients are classified according to 4 risk categories: no risk ( ), low risk ( ),moderate risk ( ), at risk ( ).
The assessment depends on the highest risk level ingredient present in the product and will influence the positioning of
the product on the value scale from 0 to 100. It is then the presence of other ingredients that will determine the precise
rating within the defined range and the resulting rating of 'at risk’ (< 25/100), “good”(50/100) or “excellent” (80/100).
