What Are Compound Words?
When two or more words come together to form a single
word, that's a compound word.
The compound word has a new and distinct meaning created
by the two terms it's made up of.

Compound words can be almost any part of speech, but
most commonly, you'll find:
Compound nouns
Compound adjectives
Compound verbs
Here's an example of each:
Vampires only come out in the nighttime.
I'm looking for a part-time job.
We hope this loan will help kick start your business.

Not all compound words are made up of two words, mind
you. You can also form a compound word by combining a word
element with a word.
The three-word elements in English are:
Here are some sentences with these types of compound words:
prefixes (anti-, im-, non-, pre-)
It always seems impossible until it's done.
suffixes (-ful, -ment, -ion, -dom)
The lion rules the animal kindgom.
combining forms (mini-, macro-, psuedo-, -graphy, -logy)
We're putting together a choreography for the school show.

A compaund word is a combination of two or three nouns and
adjectives.
They could be closed of three forms – closed form, hyphenated,
or open form. Some compound words are pretty straightforward
and mean exactly what they say – like afternoon; some mean
only half of the term, like say bellboy, and some mean nothing of
their original words – for example deadline. In such cases, it can
get very tricky for the translator.

Any translator needs to choose their niche.You should not try
to be jack of all trades; select one or two subjects and become
expert in them.
Familiarize yourself with the compound words most
commonly used in your subject area and learn the
translations. Use translation memory and other software to
make your job easier.
