BIOGRAPHY• The founder of the popular WhatsApp messenger was
born in Kiev. In 1992, he manages to move with his
mother and grandmother to the American state of
California — the family receives an apartment from the
state. But the migrants are barely making ends meet:
doctors discovered cancer in Jan's mother - the woman
could not work, the family literally survived on her
disability allowance. In order to help his family somehow,
the guy was forced to wash the floors in the evenings at
the nearest grocery store.

BIOGRAPHY• The future billionaire did not differ in good
behavior at school, at the age of 19 he joined
the hacker group w00w00. As part of the
w00w00, Jan hacked Silicon Graphics servers
more than once.
• Self-education allowed him to enter the
University of San Jose without problems, and he
used the skills acquired in w00w00 when
applying for a job in the information security
department of Ernst & Young.

BIOGRAPHY• In 1997, Jan was asked to analyze Yahoo's
advertising platform. That's when the
meeting between Kuma and Brian Acton
took place — then these guys together
will make WhatsApp.
• The developer became part of a small
team of engineers, where everyone was
given a lot of responsibility and workload.
As a result, Jan had to drop out of
university.
5.
RISE TO THE TOP• At first, the development and testing of WhatsApp
was conducted in the kitchen at Acton's house,
then transferred to a shaky table in the Red Rock
Cafe. Soon, Brian attracted the first investments in
the project — $ 250,000 was invested by five of
his acquaintances, former Yahoo employees.
• By 2011, WhatsApp had reached the top of the
American AppStore. The novelty "blew up" Silicon
Valley, and the founders had to brush off hundreds
of investor proposals.

RISE TO THE TOP• Jan and Brian held on as long as possible, but
they couldn't resist Facebook in 2014. Mark
Zuckerberg came with an astronomical
$19,000,000,000 contract.
• At the same time, both Koum and Acton not
only remained in WhatsApp — the process of
working on the application and all related
decisions remained with them. Facebook helped
in other areas — the company dealt with
finance, lawyers, provided product PR and
assistance in finding new employees. In 2018,
Kum left his brainchild — the media linked this
decision to the disputes between Jan and Mark
Zuckerberg about how to monetize the
application and how to handle users' personal
data.
• At the moment, his fortune is estimated at 10.6
