• Education in Nigeria is under the control of the Ministry of Education. The education
system is divided into kindergarten, primary education, secondary education and tertiary
education. Nigeria's central government has been dominated by instability since
independence from Britain, and as a result, a unified set of education policies has not yet
been successfully implemented. Regional differences in quality, curriculum and funding
characterize the education system in Nigeria. Nigeria currently has the largest population
of out-of-school youth education in the world.

Nigeria has a low
level of education
• Only 47% of children receive
pre-school education, of which
only 64.6% go to school. The
national literacy rate is less
than 32%... it's sad.
However, all is not lost! :)

• In Nigeria, there are traditional universities (16
federal and 8 state) that teach classical
humanities and applied sciences, and highly
specialized ones. Among the latter, there are:
• - Polytechnic universities (5 federal, 4 state);
• - Agricultural universities (3 federal ones);
• - Military University.

Constant wars greatly
hinder educatio
• In 2017, half of the educational
institutions in Borno State in Nigeria
had to be closed. The reason is the
mass killings of teachers by
representatives of the "Boko Haram"
group.
• Approximately 3,000 teachers have
died in the state at the hands of
extremists over the past 8 years.
Another 19,000 teachers were forced
to leave because they feared violence.
Fifteen hundred schools were
destroyed during the constant
hostilities.

A ray of hope
• Despite the fact that the situation in the country is
quite difficult, Nigeria does not cease to strive to
fix everything and make the lives of citizens much
better!
