The politics of Canada function within a
framework of parliamentary democracy
and a federal system of parliamentary

monarchy, in which the monarch is head

system in which many of its legislative
practices derive from the unwritten
conventions of and precedents set by the
Westminster parliament of the United

parties in Canada have historically been
the Liberal Party of Canada and the
Conservative Party of Canada.
The Liberal Party of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau
wins the parliamentary elections held on October 21.

The system of government
in Canada.
The Canadian electoral system is known as the single-mandate,
simple plurality voting system, or FPTP system. In this system,
Canadian citizens aged 18 and older have the right to vote.
Elections at the federal level are simultaneous and nationwide.
Voting is conducted by secret ballot, and the voter can cast only
one vote and vote for only one person on the ballot. During the
election, the candidate with the highest number of votes wins, even
if he or she received less than half of the votes.
