The 38th Biathlon World Championships were held in 2003 in KhantyMansiysk Russia. The opening ceremony took place on March 15 of
2003, the closing ceremony was held on March 23 of the same year.
The Alexander Filipenko Stadium has become the arena for all
championship races.

A unique case in the history of biathlon was the
award of two gold medals in the women's pursuit.
According to the rules of the competition, the
winner in a disputed case must be determined by
the results of the photo finish. However, in this
situation, the jury decided to award two gold
medals. The 2 female participants who acquired
the medals were Sandrine Bailly from France and
Martina Glagow from Germany.
