How Does Advertising InfluenceOur Purchases?
Advertising is everywhere—on TV, on billboards, online. But how much does it
actually influence us? Advertising doesn’t just inform us about products; it
makes us want them, shapes our habits, and influences our decisions. Let’s see
how.
1. Grabs Our Attention
Ads are designed to stand out. Bright colors, catchy slogans, funny or emotional
stories—all of this helps us remember the product. The more unique the ad, the more
likely we are to notice it.
2. Builds Trust and Familiarity
The more we see a brand, the more familiar and reliable it feels. Even if we’ve never
used the product before, repeated exposure makes it seem like a safe choice.
3.
3. Creates Emotional ConnectionsGood advertising doesn’t just show a product; it tells a story. If an ad makes us laugh, feel
inspired, or even cry, we remember it—and associate those emotions with the brand.
4. Makes Us Feel Like We "Need" It
Before seeing an ad, we may not have thought about buying a new phone or
skincare product. But after watching it, we start feeling like we can’t live
without it.
5. Shows That "Everyone Is Buying It"
People trust what’s popular. Ads use celebrities, influencers, or just happy customers
to make products look desirable. If others love it, we want it too.
4.
6. Creates a Sense of Urgency"Limited-time offer!" "Only 5 left in stock!" These phrases create pressure,
making us buy quickly without thinking too much.
7. Uses Psychological Tricks
Shops use small tricks to make us spend more. Prices like
"$4.99" seem much cheaper than "$5," even though the
difference is tiny. Expensive products are placed at eye level
so we notice them first.
5.
8. Shapes Trends and FashionsAdvertising doesn’t just follow trends—it creates them. If a brand repeats that a
product is "cool" or "a must-have," people start believing it and want to buy it.
9. Influences Us Even When We Don’t Notice
Even if we think we’re ignoring ads, they still work. The more we see a product, the
more we subconsciously like it. This is called the familiarity effect.
10. Keeps Us Coming Back
Brands don’t just want us to buy once—they want us to return. They offer discounts,
loyalty cards, and personalized deals to make sure we keep choosing them.
6.
How Can We Resist Advertising?Advertising helps us discover new products, but it also makes us spend money
on things we don’t really need. Before buying something, ask yourself:
Do I actually need this, or do I just want it?
Am I buying this for convenience, or because it’s trendy?
Would I still buy it if there was no discount?
By thinking carefully about our purchases, we can make smarter decisions and
avoid unnecessary spending!
