The city of Gusev is located in the
east of the Kaliningrad region. Like
most influential cities, it has gone
from a small village to a regional
administrative center. Historically, it
had the German name Gumbinnen.
And only in 1946 it received its
modern name Gusev. The first
mentions of it date back to the
beginning of the 16th century. It was
originally a fishing village called
Kulligkemen, later renamed
Pisserkaim. In 1580, the village was
already called Gumbinnen.

Historical and Local History Museum
named after A.M. Ivanova
The museum has been
operating since 2009. It is
located in an old building
decorated in the Gothic
style. Previously (during the
Great Patriotic War) it
housed a boarding school,
before that an orphanage,
police, treasury, and before
that - an officer's casino.
The brick two-story building
is crowned with a round
tower, decorated with heavy
vaults and a front entrance

Historical and Local History Museum named after A.M. Ivanova
• The museum is notable for its
extensive collection of exhibits
and modern equipment. The
museum's expositions tell the
story of Gusev: the exhibitions
present archaeological finds,
artifacts found at the
battlefields, weapons and
uniforms of soldiers who
participated in the First and
Second World Wars.

Salzburg’s Church
The ruler of Prussia, Friedrich Wilhelm I,
invited Protestants to Gumbinnen. The
Protestants quickly agreed, as the Catholic
Church declared them heretics and
oppressed them. In Gumbinnen in 1732,
after 20 years of living in this city, the
Protestants were able to build themselves a
kirch. It was a temporary building, but it
stood until 1839.

In memory of the forgotten war
that changed the course of
history
The monument reflects the depth of the tragedy
of 1914, when the merciless First World War
began. The war is called forgotten, because in
the Soviet period practically nothing was said
about it, terrible facts were silenced (about the
numerous victims of the war, about the fatal
consequences of the exploits of soldiers).

Officers' house
• Officers' houses are a popular
cultural institution for the military in
the 20th century, where
performances were held. There was
only one such house in Gumbinnen,
it was opened in the city in 1912.
Until the middle of the 20th century,
only the military could visit it, after
which the institution became public,
but only for a while (after 1950 it
became a club for the military elite).
And after the war, it housed
Gusev's military garrisons.

The building has two halls - a large spectator and a small one, as well as a
shooting range and a bowling alley (bowling). Nowadays, concerts are held
here for everyone: the building has become a house of culture.

How can I get to Gusev?
• The distance from Kaliningrad to Gusev is 110 km. Most often there are
buses in this direction, they are the main mode of transport. The
suburban train runs once a day, which can hardly be called a convenient
option. You can call a taxi or order a transfer at any time.
• Travel time by bus is 2 hours, by train - 1 hour 55 minutes, by car - 1 hour
30 minutes.
• The most popular way of transportation. Buses run frequently and daily,
unlike the only train. Both direct and passing buses depart from the
Southern Bus Station, while the travel time is the same - from 2 hours to 2
hours 20 minutes.
• The straight routes include routes № 580, 680e. To the passers-by - №
583 to the village of Chernyshevskoye, № 526 to Krasnoznamensk.
