2. Biography

Arkady Ivanovich Vasiliev was born in Sernovodsk, Sergievsky
municipal district, Samara region on 01.11.1924.
Conscripted into the army on 29.03.1943.
Served in the 37th Rifle Regiment as an anti-tank gunner.
Fought near Kursk.
In 1944 he took part in the Red Army crossing of the Dnieper River,
for the crossing of which there were heavy battles.
In 1944 he was sent to the junior commanders course at the
artillery school, from which he graduated with the rank of Junior
Lieutenant.
He killed 10 Germans in hand-to-hand fighting.
Died in 1961.

3. Awards

1) Medal of Honour:
This award was received for the Kursk operation.
Arkady prevented a German detachment from
bypassing a Soviet machine gun and destroying its
calculation.
2) Order of the Red Banner:
This award was received for holding a
bridgehead when the main forces crossed
the Dnieper River
