3. What is Community Service?

“Community service is when
someone does work for free to help
their community.”
“Community service can also be a way for students to
learn and help their community at the same time. This is
called educational community service. ”

4. Course Rationale

To provide students with opportunities to acquire knowledge, understanding,
experience and ability in the application of the 4 soft skills namely:
effective communication in various situations
critical thinking
leadership and teamwork
social skills and responsibilities

5. Synopsis

This
course studies the concept
involvement through projects.

community
The aim of this course is to provide an understanding
and appreciation of community involvement in the
project.
Teaching and learning will be conducted in the form of
discussions,
activities.
At
experiential
learning
through
group
the end of the course, students are expected to
adopt the values and ethics, leadership and teamwork
and social responsibility.

More than 500 hundred
have been completed.
(online and physical)projects
Various campaigns-health, environment, lifestyle, culture
etc.

work- planted trees, visited hospitals, schools,
aborigine villages, orphanages, old folks homes, shelters

What can you do?
Think of a project you could organize in campus
o Should be a one day event
o To be conducted for 4 to 5 hours
The main purpose of your project is to serve the community-Project should be
beneficial to society.

10. How to get organized?

You will be working in groups of 20 - 22 (subject to number of
students in class)
1.
GROUPING only limited for students in the same
class/group
2.
Should have (even distribution of) both local and
international students
3.
Complete the Group List via LINK provided on Moodle
4.
Make sure to select a group leader and provide the group
leader’s details on top of the form

12. Topic Selection & Proposal

Topic Selection & Proposal
To get your topic approved:
Group Leader will present the idea for the project
Presentation will be held in class (WEEK 4)
You are required to prepare a 15 – 20 minutes PPT presentation following the guideline below:
1) Introduction - Provide background information
2) Project aim/objectives
3) State target participant/audience for the project and this will include the estimate number of
participants
4) Complete Plan- Details of activities, execution, task distribution etc.
5) Expected Outcomes (set a target to achieve)
6) How will you evaluate the success/efficiency of your project
7) Proposed Budget

14. REMINDER

Attendance will be recorded
until Week 15.
